This is the process whereby plants store light energy. It mainly occurs inside the chloroplast.

Here is a study where silver concentration in different plant organs including the chloroplast could be determined using synchrotron radiation.

I once studied an artificial photosynthetic system: a carotene, Porphyrin, C60 triad.
We used transient absorption spectroscopy. The compound was put in different solvents such as Toluene and methyltetrahyudrofuran. We also put it in liquid nitrogen to make it 77K. We found that it went to the Carotene triplet state. The transfer from triplet to singlet state occurs via intersystem crossing. It created a long lived charge separated state that was previously mainly observed in photosynthetic systems.

There are still some mysteries to understand about photosynthesis. Quantum aspects.
